Our Training Director
Just like humans, every dog is an individual. We meet with you and your dog. We assess your dog to determine their temperament, willingness to learn, and any other behavioral issues the dog may be experiencing.
Meet Carolyn Mckee
You may recognize Carolyn Mckee, the Director of Training here at A Dog’s World Unleashed. Carolyn has trained 2200+ dogs since being at ADWU. Yet, her story has never been shared.
Carolyn’s love for dogs and animals runs deep and has been present since her childhood. Growing up with dogs has shaped her into the person she is today. However, her dog training career did not begin until 2008 when she began dog walking and pet sitting for local clients. Afterwards, she joined a facility where she was able to shadow a dog trainer. Shadowing consists mainly of observation, but she became an apprentice after six months. During her apprenticeship Carolyn was able to interact with dogs and their owners while attending extensive training seminars that taught her all about socialization, dog handling, and dog behavior. After multiple successful training clients Carolyn became Assistant Trainer and held this position for several years. She transitioned from that facility into A Dog’s World Unleashed in 2021, where she is now Director of Training.
A pivotal part of Carolyn’s journey in dog training is when she met her dog Lucky. Lucky is from Survivor Tails Animal Rescue and was brought into the facility Carolyn was working at in the summer of 2019 as a board and train. At the time, Lucky did not have a family, and she needed help. If you have met Lucky recently you may not believe this, but she was once a very different dog. Lucky suffered from severe fear and anxiety and was a flight risk constantly escaping her foster homes. Carolyn was in control of her board and train and eventually became her foster. The progress Carolyn made with Lucky was insurmountable, and Lucky became a foster fail and joined Carolyn’s family. Lucky is an example of how dog training is not something that has a concrete ending. To this day, Carolyn continues to train and work with her, making
progress every day.Fast forward to today, Carolyn is a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals and the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Program. Her training focuses on basic obedience, behavior modification, and alongside Alicia she helps teach the Canine Good Citizen classes. At A Dog’s World Unleashed Carolyn wants people to learn how to like their dog while loving their dog. She encourages owners to understand the responsibility of owning a dog. It is the human’s job to teach their dog how to behave and guide them through life. A dog is a commitment, and it is up to the human to honor that commitment and make their dog's life the best it can possibly be.
Outside of work Carolyn’s passion is gardening. Whenever you pull up to the building and see the beautiful plants, know that is Carolyn’s handiwork. Gardening is another way for her to bring peace to the world. She finds similarities between gardening and dog training, both include hard work, physical and mental strength, and the results reflect the effort you put in.
